PRIVACY POLICY
Tacit Knowledge recognizes that the information you provide is private and we are committed to keeping that information confidential. However, there are a few facts about how your information will be collected, used, and retained that you should understand prior to entering our service.
Record Keeping
Tacit Knowledge is required to keep a record of your interactions for a period of 10 years after your last contact with us. Your counselling record will be stored in a secure manner and its contents cannot be directly accessed by anyone not from Tacit Knowledge. No information will be released from your counselling record without your consent; except in the circumstances described in the Confidentiality and Limitations section below.
Confidentiality and Limitations
Please be aware that the counselling provided by Tacit Knowledge is strictly confidential. No information will be shared with any third party without the your written permission. There are some legal exceptions to this confidentiality:
1. If you disclose incidents of abuse or neglect which affect or possibly affect children under the age of 18, the concerns must be reported to Child and Family Services;
2. If you disclosure an intent to seriously harm yourself or others, reasonable actions must be taken to ensure safety - this may include the need to contact the police or other responsible authorities;
3. If your information is subpoenaed by the court, the information must be provided;
4. If you fail to provide payment for services, after reasonable efforts have been made to collect the debt, Tacit Knowledge may forward the matter to an agency for further legal action/collection process. Some client information will be shared through this process - but no therapeutic information will be disclosed.
Whenever possible, Tacit Knowledge will endeavour to work with the client to establish the best possible process for the confidential information to be shared.
Please be aware that if you are participating in a joint/couples/group counselling situation, anything said in these sessions may be shared in full or in part with the other part(ies) involved in the shared counselling process.
